After pursuing his Masters in Science from Northwestern University – USA, Mayur Abhaya, joined Shasun Chemicals – one of India’s prime pharmaceutical manufacturing company supplying products to greater than 100 countries across the world and meeting stringent regulatory standards prescribed by agencies such as the FDA and EMEA.,. During his period with Shasun he has contribued significantly towards the development of novel processes for synthesis of bulk pharmaceuticals, and taking them all the way to commercial manufacturing and regulatory approval. He is also a certified Six Sigma Black Belt professional and has used this experience to improve business processes by championing the implementation of SAP ERP at Shasun. As a head of intellectual property rights at Shasun he was instrumental in development, protection, maintenance, enforcement and exploitation of intellectual property such as patents and trademarks.
Mayur has recently taken charge as Executive Director of LifeCell International. He is now actively involved in driving the business in total perspective from banking, research to therapy. As the Executive Director Mayur will be instrumental in directing corporate administrative and business activities; building and managing a team of employees; creating and executing the strategic vision of LifeCell International and strengthening the company’s position as a leaders in stem cells.
Mayur has set himself on an ambitious track of putting LifeCell in the international map of stem cell technology and positioning LifeCell as the hub for stem cell solutions worldwide.

AABB (American Association of Blood Banks)
LifeCell has been granted the prestigious AABB Accreditation. AABB (American Association of Blood Banks) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to developing the highest standards in blood and cord blood banking, transfusion medicine and cellular therapy. The accreditation assessment includes stem cell processing, cyro-preservation records, document control, inspection and testing, training of lab technicians, sample identification and traceability and verification of cord blood units when released from storage. During this audit, it was determined that LifeCell’s level of medical, technical and administrative performance met the high standard required.

LifeCell R&D facility has been created to address speedier development of stem cells from various sources and to evolve clinically meaningful research outputs. LifeCell has a 21,000 square feet state-of-the-art stem cell processing and banking facility in the outskirts of Chennai city. The facility has a capacity to store over 1 lakh samples and conforms to the standards of American Association of Blood Banks and US FDA. The technical team has been trained by Cryo-Cell International as per international standards and practices in handling blood and blood products.
The storage facility is an earth quake and flood resistant building. The facility has adequate fire fighting measures such as automatic sprinklers and alarm systems are present throughout the building. The facility is fitted with a Central Monitoring system which monitors the temperature, humidity and pressure, 24*7 to ensure a controlled environment as required for current good manufacturing practices and current good laboratory practices.

TRICell is an affiliate of LifeCell and has been set-up as a state-of-the-art therapeutics facility to provide clinical applications through Stem Cell Therapy. I have ALS, and stem cells are going to be the key to a cure for neuromuscular diseases such as ALS, Parkinson’s, MS, and the many variations of Muscular Dystrphy. I hope they find a less expensive way to store it, so more people can do this in the future.
