With eight years experience as a journalist [three years with The Statesman, Delhi and five years with Down To Earth – a publication from the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE)], he has been with Amway since April 2000. While the first five years at Amway were devoted to the Company’s CSR efforts, he has been wearing both communications as well as the CSR hats since July 2005. He has done his PGD in Journalism from BVB, Delhi.

Some career highlights include:

* Drafting a book on river pollution for CSE: this project took over two years in the compiling. The book covered the status of 14 polluted rivers in India, sources of pollution, citizen’s response, government efforts at containing pollution, as well as case studies of success stories in other countries.
* Co-authoring the chapter in the CSE publication, Homicide by Pesticides, in February 1997. This report studied the pesticide traces in the river Yamuna, and exposed the inability of water treatment plants to even identify traces of pesticides in the water.
* Nominated on the Ministry environment & forest NGO committee, which looked at ways of better implementing the Ganga Action Plan in Jan-May 1999.
* Nominated to attend a UNDP workshop on ecological sanitation in November 1999, as a World Bank consultant, in Mexico.
* Nominated to attend the sixth session of the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD 6) at the United Nations, New York in May 1988, and also the fourth Conference of Parties to the Basel Convention (COP 4), at Kuching, Malaysia
* Authored the chapter on Water in the State of the Environment, Citizens Fifth Report.



Prior to being a journalist, Rajat had worked in the Tea and Coffee estates of Tata Tea Ltd and Bombay Burmah Trading Corporation for close to three years.

He is a keen outdoorsman and treks the high Himalaya once a year. With an active interest in the martial arts, he has completed five half-marathons and two marathons (Mumbai). His wife (also a former journalist with The Statesman and Business Barons) teaches German. They live in Delhi with their two children.
