Thangam Meganathan

"There is a lot of talk about Vision 2020, 2050 and so on. But what is the action happening? In 'New Thinking for the New Millennium' Edward de Bono talks of designing a future. He says what we have done in the last millennium has not been successful. He also talks of how educational institutions are not preparing students who are deliverable due to lack of skill enhancement/development. Instead, we have got them to run a race regimented within the boundaries of the examination system; and when they fail we tell them they can't perform. What is the solution? Today's educational institutions, apart from teaching from an examination point of view, will have to identify the aptitudes of students by kindling their original thinking capabilities. It is do-able with stakeholders (parents, teachers, students, Government etc.) believing in the change and coming together."
