Siddharta Govindaraj

"These days I have mostly been thinking about startup activities in Chennai. I have been impressed by how many startups I meet at these events, like and OpenCoffee Club. We find a huge increase in the numbers over the last about a year and a half. There is definitely a tilt towards Internet-based startups. Though there are not many huge successes, what is key is that more people are willing to leave comfortable jobs and start companies. A few years back, they were more risk-averse."

My primary interest is in improving the way software is delivered. I take great interest in agile software development methodologies. I am also interested in the social aspects of software development and how it relates to the technical aspects. I started a company, Silver Stripe Software Pvt Ltd, to work further in the area of software delivery.

I've been a developer, tester and project manager (sometimes all at the same time!) in a variety of projects. Have worked in C mostly, with a little bit of Java and Perl at various points. I currently work with Python and Javascript.

I jointly led and managed a team to develop a mobile browser from scratch. The browser was developed in C by a team of 10 developers.

On a personal level, I am interested in expanding the startup and tech ecosystem in India. I've been an organizer in two unconferences, with two more coming up this year. I have a passion for self-organisation and decentralised systems :)

I'm also one of the organizers of, a bi-annual event that showcases startup companies to an audience of venture capitalists, technologists and media.
