"In a year from now, that is, in March 2009, we will be celebrating the 100th year of establishment of the company and the 'umami' (the taste of Ajinomoto, in Japanese). We, in India, have the tradition of six tastes, viz. sweet, sour, bitter, salty, spicy, and astringent. However, worldwide, the common tastes are four, viz. sweet, sour, bitter and salty. Therefore, internationally, 'umami' is recognised as the 'fifth' taste."
