Sundar Doraiswamy is the managing director of Mahalakshmi Tools & Machinery Pvt. Ltd, Padi, Chennai. He started the business in the year 1985 with expertise in Jigs & Fixtures, Moulds & Dies and machinery parts. Through a successful series of continuous innovations and keen management skills he has helped the company to evolve into one of the leading designers and manufactures of Special Purpose Machines (SPM) and precision equipment.

The company also manufactures a broad range of tool room components, battery units, and auto ancillaries’ parts. With high expertise and an elaborate set of tool rooms, metrology sections, design departments and fabrication units, the company is segmented into two manufacturing units: one in Padi Industrial Estate and other in Veeranur near Avadi.

Sundar started his career as a trainee industrial engineer in the year 1972 with Easun Group of Companies, Guindy Industrial Estate. He was promoted as production engineer in the year 1974 and remained in the position till 1977. After acquiring an extensive set of key technical capabilities, he decided to join Aspick Engineering, Chennai as production & planning engineer in the year 1977. After seven years of rigorous performance and industry wide appreciation, he went onto join as a works manager in Engineering Tools & Services (ETS), the parent company that manufactured the Royal Enfield bikes. The stay in ETS, from 1981 – 1984, highly motivated and influenced him into becoming a young entrepreneur with core business competencies and strong ideals.

With acute focus on customer and market demand, Sundar drives an energetic consortium of a highly motivated workforce. Sundar believes that the company’s strength lies in its inherent abilities to deploy creative growth strategies enabled by a heightened sense of team work and quality consciousness.

Sundar has been awarded The Best Entrepreneur by Tamil Nadu Association of Cottage and Tiny Entrepreneurs (TACT) in May 2000. He later received the prestigious Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s Memorial award in November 2006.

Sundar has a Diploma in Engineering from Indian Institute of Engineering Technology (IIET) and Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Madras University, Chennai.

In his free time he loves to play badminton and watch sports on television.
