People are increasingly consuming music through digital formats, be it the Internet, mobiles, or personal entertainment devices. Music, as such, can become free, with the likes of YouTube around. Companies have to adapt to the changing trends. Monetising live music and live entertainment can become more popular in India, as in the West."

Ashok Krishnan joined Saregama India Limited in April 2007 as the Business Unit Head- South. He is responsible for the South P&L of Saregama's Music, Digital, Events, Corporate Sales and other related New Business ventures. Ashok comes to Saregama with over 15 years of experience in technology, management, consulting and entrepreneurship. Most recently, he was Vice President at National Institute of Smart Government (NISG) dealing with e-Governance and ICT for development projects. Prior to this, he was in the U.S. for over 14 years where he ran a consulting firm for 7 years working with Fortune 500 and Government clients providing I.T. consulting services. Prior, he was a senior management consultant with Advanced Business Consultants to various Fortune companies such as American Airlines, Accenture, Monsanto, State of Nebraska among others.

He has revived Saregama's live recordings during Chennai's Music Season in December and is promoting the next generation of young maestro musicians. The plan is to expand Saregama into the Digital platform, Events, Corporate Sales and other allied New Business ventures. He plans to start "Artist management" in the South which involves screening and signing up of select artistes on contracts and managing their career, shows, recordings and promotion. He is also introducing new brands in both classical and film music that will cater to the "cradle to grave" musical needs of a music lover.

His educational qualifications include an MBA degree from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, a M.S. in Management Information Systems from University of Texas at Dallas and a Bachelors degree in Industrial and Production Engineering from R.V. College of Engineering, Bangalore.

Ashok was as a Board member at Joliet Junior College, the oldest Community College in America. He is passionate about music and learnt carnatic classical music at an early age and performed in several music shows in the U.S. and in India. He is married to Aarthi and they have one son- Rushil.
